My previous default data file was one that I have been using since the year 2000. I solved my problem by creating a new data file (pst) in Outlook 2016 and making it my default. Different posters to this thread have different configurations. I suppose there are a variety of things that could be going wrong. Sorry for the long post but I have been trying to sort this problem out for quite some time. The Calendar, Contacts and Tasks section of the iCloud control panel is checked when re-built but after running Outlook this section is not checked and when attempting to check it and apply the change it un-checks itself. The iCloud “add in” in Outlook “add ins” is active. I have also deleted the Outlook data file ****.ost and allowed the installer to re-build this file fresh.
I have tried several complete removal and then re-installs of iCloud for windows and have also done this with the firewall and active virus scanning turned off.

When trying to install a new data file in Outlook in Account settings, iCloud type is offered but when selecting this the error message says this can only be set in the iCloud control Panel In outlook the installer doesn’t setup an iCloud data file “**APLZOD.pst” in the Account settings, data file tab. Its just Outlook that doesn't sync with iCloud to get these items. Calendar and Contacts live in iCloud and are working fine in my iPhone, iPad and the iCloud app on the PC. Mail is directly downloaded to Outlook from Google mail.
